It's Up To Me

It’s Monday and I’m back at work. Though I am feeling better, I am still not feeling as awesome as I would like. Oh well, I’ll struggle through and make it through the day and go to bed early.

Leland left today for Puerto Rico. I will be on my own this week, and as much as I like having my alone time, I like it better when he is around. He is funny and makes me laugh all the time, he keeps the house clean, and he motivates…I mean, nags me, to take care of myself.

When he is here, we work out together, make healthy dinners together, go for late evening strolls, and of course, sexercise. When he was in Puerto Rico last month I did not take good care of myself. I didn’t work out AT ALL, I ate crappy food and drank a lot of wine. As much as I HATE admitting it, Leland keeps me healthy.

My goal for this week is to prove that I can take care of myself when no one else is watching. I want to get my body moving every day this week. Since I am still sick I don’t want to fool myself into thinking that I am going to get 5 days of vigorous exercise, but I am going to do some sort of physical activity every day this week. It could mean taking Bacchus for a walk, doing some yard work, playing Wii boxing, or even doing the Shred at the end of the week when I am (goddess help me) feeling better.

As for eating, I don’t have money to buy crappy food, so I will be eating the salmon and shrimp that I have in my freezer.

I don’t need Leland around to be good to myself.

Right?

Right.

When The Husband went away for work one time, I still managed to walk/run 3x in the week and I made 2 meals at home for me and the girls. I dubbed myself Wonder Woman that week. You can do it!

too funny, I'm the opposite! my husband is the one who eats bad all the time, so when he's gone I can prepare healthy stuff and not hear whining from him!

although, lately all his bad eating habits have caught with him on the scale, so he's not whining as much about eating healthier....

Salmon and Shrimp sounds great. And I understand, my husband and I keep each other on point.

You're right - you don't need Leland to take care of yourself. Only YOU can really do that.

Maybe this will help you - I keep a calendar in front of my desk at all times (in front of my computer too). Even a monthly printout from the internet would do just fine. Each day I write out what kind of exercise I do - 30 day shred, yardwork, walked 3 miles, or whatever. Seeing that I have penciled something in each day of the week really makes me feel good!

Good luck and enjoy that alone time. Put on some music while you move. That always gets me going~!

You can do it! I know what you mean about missing your other half... it's nice for a few hours, maybe even a day or two, but not for a full week!

Ya'll are going to have a LOT of making up to do to reach 700!

And thanks for supporting my Blue Devils-- I appreciate it!

You can do it! My hubs went to Singapore for work for like a month. I was too depressed to eat OR exercize! :)

You can absolutely do it. Exercise, even just a little walking, always helps me feel better when I'm sick, so just think of that...you'll feel so good once you get up and moving! And Leland will be home before you know it =)

It can be tough getting motivated to work out and eat healthy. Play some music, put on a pair of tight pants, call someone for an upbeat conversation. Anything to get the mind going, and then the body.

I hate...HATE...when my husband's away. Hope your week flies by and you're feeling better by the time your hubby returns.

You can do it! Think of how good you'll feel when the week is over and you've accomplished your goals! (Wow, that was uncharacteristically kind and motivational of me. I promise to return promptly to my snarky, bitchy self.)

RIGHT! Why my husband is gone, I lay on the couch all day and sleep in the middle of the bed...those are the days!

Right!! Take care of yourself!! And those freezer foods sound good to me!!

RIGHT! And maybe a small sex break will have you wanting it more! I love shrimp and salmon. I have a bazillion recipes for them!

You can do it!

I'm not a good example at all though. In December my husband took my kids to Ohio for his family Christmas, and I was sick so I stayed home. It was only one night, but I ordered pizza and ate ice cream. I can only imagine the condition I would be in if he was gone for a week!

It's easier to just rest, relax and take it easy when they're gone. When he gets back, you'll be raring to go!!!

I think it's safe to say that my husband makes me fatter. I cook salmon and asparagus for dinner and he refuses to eat the asparagus and asks me to go pick up McDonald's.

How in the world did I miss this whole sexercise thing? I'm going to have to remedy that.

I love how well you guys get along. You can be good to yourself while he's gone though.

I hate it when my husband has to go on a trip. The house feels like there is something missing.

Glad you are better!!!

You do the best you can! I try to make just a 10 goal for myself when I decide I am going to get myself on the dreadmill. I promise just 10 minutes (it usually ends up being more) but it is doable and then I feel good that I kept my promise to myself!

or sometimes I just say: "No matter what I eat, I am going to have a fruit and/or veggie with every single meal!!" Good luck girl :)

You asked for a book suggestion-- but you are going to be reading comments from here to eternity girl!!! Your commenters always have juicy stuff to leave behind, too!

I really would recommend any Phillippa Gregory book, particularly her "The Other Boleyn Girl" series. They are really captivating, especially if you like historical fiction!

Nope. No way. Nuh-uh.

You will drink water. Lots of it. It will make you feel better. Not just because you're sick. But because most people are dehydrated and don't even know it.

You will go outside and at least wander around a LITTLE. Spring is coming. Fresh air. Mmmhmmm.

Healthy food for you, girl. Junk food is just not good enough for my Yankee Girl. You're better than that.

Rest. Water. Healthy food. Outside.

Won't it be great to have your man come home to a girl who isn't feeling sick and who is healthy, glowing and refreshed? Who is maybe down a pound or two?

If you require any more nagging, let me know. It's one of my specialties.

I LOVE when my husband is out of town. Just think how much you'll appreciate your's once he's home! Hope you're feeling better.

Right on! I tend to do the same thing you do...for some reason, I don't care as much if I'm fatter, so long as Aaron isn't around. When he's here I wanna be sexy and all that.....so I want to fit into my lace-up panties. TO be honest, I lost most of my weight when I focused on it during this last deployment.

YOU CAN DO IT! Just keep your mind focused on what's important to you. Your hubbs, for sure, but your body is your hubb's favorite thing in the whole wide world. You wouldn't spit on his guitar, so don't spit on something 100x more important to him! Love yourself, ladybird. You're so totally worth it.

I've been so busy the past 4-5 days I missed this post.

I hope you are feeling better today and taking good care of yourself.

You can do it! But I know the feeling. When left on my own all I want to do is lay on the couch, watch tv, and eat crappy food. Stay strong and think of how much better you will feel if you eat the salmon in your freezer instead of ordering a pizza. And if you do decide to order the pizza well then I'll join you bc now pizza sounds good! :)
