Poetry Slam with the Scholastic Scribe

Melissa at The Scholastic Scribe is hosting a poetry slam over at her place. I'm not really a poet (you'll see what I mean below) but I though I would join in the for day.

Here is my silly little sonnet* that I just wrote. Really, I wrote it in ten minutes, which is very evident by my silly little rhymes.

If I am remembering my Shakespeare correctly, he didn't name his sonnets, they were titled for the first line of the sonnet. So I guess that would mean the name of my sonnet is A snoring mister kept me up all night.

A snoring mister kept me up all night
Tossing and turning and snoring in bed
The lack of sleep as robbed me of my sprite
My eyes are heavy and itchy and red
though I’m complaining I’m actually fine
I’m worried for Leland who has a bad cold
vacations with a cold sound like a crime
he needs to kick this cellular slime mold
He has taken lots of vitamin C
to prepare for the long flight down south
and enjoy the fun weekend potpourri
hopefully he’ll stop breathing through his mouth
Leland is sick and I am tired
Being healthy is simply required

*This is what happens when I get 1.5 hours of sleep. Please forgive me for making you read this!

Very cool sonnet. Sick and vacation does not work. We went on a cruze with me with a sinus infection. Hope Leland get better and you get some sleep.

I know the woe of your poem well. I think we all do. I hope Leland is feeling better after his night's sleep. Maybe you can sleep on the plane?

I love it. I had to kick the hubs repeatedly last night to roll over because his snoring is out of control. My hubs isn't sick, he just needs to lose weight!

I hope that Leland feels better soon!!

I hope Leland feels better soon and you get some rest. I have a snoring Mister at my house, too. No fun.

I do like that you managed to fit the word "potpourri" in there.

You were a poet and didn't know it...
Have a hubby with a cold and its deep in his node...
It makes him snore and makes your mind race and roar...
I hope he is all well very soon and that you sleep the next rise of the moon.

Ha I liked it a lot! I LOVE silly poems! Wait until you see the ones I included in my cookbook - I wrote about how broccoli stinks, onions make me cry and potatoes flirt with me! Oh yeah, it doesn't get much sillier than that! I hope you get some rest and Leland feels better soon! Cheers.

I agree, get thee to a pharmacy and grab some plugs!

Haha...I think it's good. Funny, too. There is nothing worse than sleeping with someone who keeps you up all night. If mine isn't snoring (moaning), he's flopping around like a fish out of water. Good lord, he even scares the dog off the bed.

Here's to wishing you a good night's sleep. :)

...ahem...the poem didn't rhyme...
I'm not saying it wasn't lovely. But it didn't rhyme...
Get some sleep!

It sounds like you need him to get well as much for yourself as for him! Get some sleep soon.

1.5 hours sleep or not, I thought "Sleeping Mister" was very fun. I did the Poetry Slam,as well. It's a great chance to challenge ourselves.

I hope Leland is feeling better and you are getting some sleep! And too funny that you posted the same thing over at my blog, but I love that you are back to posting! And more often! I missed being able to read you regularly! :) Even if they are silly sonnets!
